April Update
We have continued our process of designing and permitting the first phase of Riverwalk San Diego and wanted to share some exciting news: we expect to break ground in July. There will be some early work to prepare for construction, which will start in May, so you may see some trucks on and around the site in the coming weeks.
The first phase of Riverwalk will deliver on the vision of a walkable, pedestrian oriented neighborhood that will create a gathering place for all San Diegans. The retail will provide the daily needs that currently are missing from our neighborhood – grocery, local restaurants, fitness – all centered around a community lawn where families and neighbors can meet while shopping, eating and hanging with friends.
Further, phase 1 will provide roughly 900 homes in a series of five buildings. These residences will range in size from studios to town homes. All homes in the first phase will be for-rent apartments, but we do anticipate for sale homes in future phases of the project. As promised to the community, there will be ample parking for both the residences and the retail. Also, we will be improving all the sidewalks and bike lanes along Friars Road to make for a more pleasant walking and biking experience for our neighbors.
Timeline
- Ground Breaking – July 2022
- Friars Road Improvements (widening the road, adding new traffic signals, planted median, bike lane and sidewalk) – Early 2023–Fall 2023
- Building Completion – Early 2025
- Grand Opening – Early 2025
The 18-hole Riverwalk Golf Course will remain open through construction of Phase 1 and for many years thereafter.
We appreciate the input and support we’ve received from the community, and we look forward to creating something special in Mission Valley.
