By: Ray Huard

Growing up in the rural Pennsylvania community of Chambersburg, Eric Hepfer wanted to become a military officer or a business executive.“

As a kid, it was either fighter jets or business,” Hepfer said. “I had a subscription to the Wall Street Journal as a sixth grader.”

Hepfer has fulfilled both of his child-hood ambitions.

As managing director of Hines, Hepfer is oversee-ing a massive $3 billion redevelopment project in Mission Valley, transforming the Riverwalk Golf Course into a mixed-use community that will include 4,300 rental apartments, for-sale condominium units, 1 million square feet of office space, 152,000 square feet of retail space and a $10 million new trolley station.

The Riverwalk development also will include more than 100 acres of open space with an 80-acre park along the San Diego River.
