Thank you for your continued patience with the construction of Riverwalk. We know that the construction along Friars Road and periodic water shutoffs have been an inconvenience, so thank you for bearing with us as we do this necessary work. We have some exciting updates to share with you all:

Grocery Store – We are delighted to announce that we have signed a Letter of Intent with Baron’s Market for the grocery space at Riverwalk. Baron’s is a locally operated natural grocer, focused on providing a fantastic selection of organic, natural and specialty foods at great prices. From the very beginning of our community outreach, we received consistent feedback that a grocery store was desperately needed in the Riverwalk area. We think Baron’s is the perfect fit – a great operator focused on being a neighborhood grocery store. Knowing that this grocery store will be visited by the surrounding neighbors, not just Riverwalk residents, we will be providing ample public parking immediately adjacent to the store. We look forward to Baron’s opening with the project in late 2025 or early 2026!

Retail – We are having a number of discussions with local and regional restaurant groups to fill the retail spaces at Riverwalk. From full-service, sit-down restaurants to coffee shops and fitness studios, we hope Riverwalk will provide a main street community gathering space for western Mission Valley and all San Diegans. We have updated renderings of how this space is coming together. We look forward to seeing you all on the Central Lawn for live music and festivities!

Residences – The residential buildings are with the city for permit review. We anticipate construction of buildings to begin in late summer or early fall. The first phase of Riverwalk will provide 900+ for-rent homes from studios to townhomes. In addition to immediate access to the parks and retail provided at Riverwalk, the residents will have access to:

  • A 10,000-square-foot, indoor-outdoor gym
  • Five pools
  • Multiple golf simulators
  • A recording studio
  • Co-working and makers spaces
  • A wine bar with a secret garden

Knowing that four-legged friends are an important part of our lives, there will be multiple dog parks, one with an adjacent resident lounge with beer on tap for residents to enjoy while the pups run around. While it’s too soon to open our interest list, here is a sneak peak of the residential spaces.

Construction Update – We are nearing completion of the installation of utilities in Friars Road and onsite. The next phase of construction will be widening Friars, installing three new traffic signals, and providing new sidewalks, bike lanes, and landscaped medians between Via Las Cumbres and Fashion Valley Road. At the same time, we will begin paving roads onsite and the Riverwalk neighborhood will begin to take shape. As part of this process, we will be installing a new traffic signal at Goshen Street, which will connect to a brand-new private driveway for the Courtyards community. This new signal will be a significant safety improvement for our neighbors at the Courtyards. The work along Friars Road is anticipated to begin in late June and complete in January – at which point, we will be done with construction along Friars Road for good!

Beginning late summer or early fall, you’ll start to see building construction on site. This construction will continue until the spring of 2026.
